Today, Saturday 26 February, Fakenham Wensum Cubs are holding a sponsored walk from Cromer to Sheringham to raise money for one of their pack, Oliver Turner who has Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy.

Ollie was diagnosed with the degenerative, life limiting condition last year; but that has not stopped him from getting involved with the Fakenham Wensum Cubs group and enjoying his favourite thing – the beach.

Oliver’s Mum and Dad set up a Just Giving page in early February so that they could raise funds to purchase a Trekinetic, all-terrain wheelchair which will allow Ollie to enjoy a level of freedom that he has not yet been able to experience. It will also mean that the family are once again able to spend time together outdoors which is something that they have not been able to do for a long time.

Amazingly, the family were able to raise enough money to place the order for Ollie’s wheels after just 6 days of fundraising

The Council provided one of their beach wheelchairs for Ollie to use, so that they can complete the walk between the two coastal towns. The money raised today will be used to future-proof the family home and make it more accessible for Ollie as his needs change. Anything raised over and above what the family need will be donated to Duchenne UK and their ongoing research to help end Duchenne.

Hear from Ollie's dad, Andy:

Cllr. Virginia Gay, portfolio holder for Leisure, Wellbeing & Culture said:

“We’re just so very glad to be of help to Ollie and his family in their fundraising.

Our beach wheelchairs are there to make it easy for as many people as possible to enjoy North Norfolk’s magnificent beaches, and we’re pleased that we can assist Ollie in enjoying his favourite place”
