North Norfolk District Council’s environmental festival, Greenbuild, will return to North Norfolk with a physical, live event for the first time since 2019.

In 2022, Greenbuild will be hosted as a hybrid event, featuring virtual talks during the week, and an in-person event held in Fakenham town centre, with support from Fakenham Town Council.

Alongside the physical and virtual events, there will also be satellite events, including wildlife tours and a guided coastal walk .

Greenbuild is the Council’s long-running annual environmental event which addresses ways in which residents, communities and local businesses can work together to build a more sustainable future for North Norfolk through the exploration of issues surrounding the climate change and biodiversity agenda.

Join us at the live event on Saturday 10 September, where you can be inspired by our speakers, take part in activities such as a community music-making workshop or a tree ID trail, learn new sustainable skills such as composting, upcycling your clothes, or learn how to make your home more energy efficient.

There will also be pop-up stalls, where you can buy and eat Norfolk produce and support local businesses both at the event and in Fakenham town centre.

All events are free and open to all.

Cllr. Nigel Lloyd, portfolio holder for Environmental Services, Climate Change & Environment said:

'I am so pleased that we are able to once again host NNDC’s flagship Greenbuild in North Norfolk. Last year's virtual Greenbuild event was a great success that attracted a varied group of interesting speakers. Topics, all presented by experts in their field, ranged from local seaweed industry to growing your own veg, from fast fashion to NNDC's own climate change agenda with many other topics covered.  It included a great North Norfolk themed presentation by Chris Packham.

This year I am delighted that we are once again able to offer an in-person event to our residents. The location will be at Fakenham in the West of the district, a first for Greenbuild and will be complemented by a suite of new virtual events spread over a period of days at which residents can participate from the comfort of their own homes if they wish.

The events will be centred on sustainable living, climate change, conservation and environmental innovation. All events will be free to attend. It is hoped that the in-person event will be a fun day that will have something to interest everyone both young and old. I am looking forward to lively discussion and hope to meet as many residents as possible.'

2021’s virtual Greenbuild was a great success, with hundreds of viewers tuning in to hear talks from speakers such as Chris Packham, Jake Fiennes, Dr Sophie Day, Dr Ella Gilbert, and the launch of the Council’s Carbon Reduction Strategy.

The speakers for the 2022 virtual events and panellists for the physical event will be announced in due course.

In April 2019 North Norfolk became the first district council in Norfolk to declare a climate change emergency.  Since then the council has published its Environmental Charter which can be viewed here.
