Next week, work will start on the Overstrand Coastal Management Scheme.

The Council and its contractors have been maintaining the sea defences at Overstrand for many years. More recently, two areas of the sea wall have been identified as seriously undermined and require significant repair work.

The recommended works include replacing the corroded steel sheet piling and reinforcing the structure with concrete in two of the most vulnerable sections. This is intended to extend the effective life of the sea defence structure and needs to be completed before winter storms.

We are now moving forward with a project to upgrade and repair the sea wall The first stage of the works will include the delivery of 500 steel sheet piles. To minimise disruption to Overstrand residents, these sheets will be offloaded at Runton Road car park in Cromer, before being transferred to Overstrand.

The first sheet piles will arrive in Cromer week commencing Monday, 22 June. Later the same week, starting on Tuesday, 23 June, the sheet piles will be relocated to Overstrand in suitable lorries that can be driven down the tarmacked beach access at Clifton Way into the site compound. This will take approximately seven days to complete.

Once a contractor has been formally appointed, they will set up in the site compound at the bottom of Clifton Way.

The Overstrand Coastal Management Scheme must be completed over the summer and early autumn and will involve localised closures of the sea wall, in Overstrand.
