NNDC is a great place to work and offers some excellent employee benefits.

North Norfolk District Council prides itself on being a family-friendly organisation. We offer flexible working arrangements such as flexible working hours, carer's leave, and volunteer leave. We also have a great range of benefits. See below for what we have to offer!

Hybrid working

It's important to us that our staff have a good work-life balance. Many of our roles can be completed using a hybrid approach, working both at home and collaborating with colleagues in the office. If you want to work in the office every day, that's fine as well! If you live a long way from our office but like the look of one of our roles, you can still apply. If you're successful, we may be able to do things differently.

Annual leave

Our staff get 25 days of annual leave plus bank holidays per year. After completing 5 years' service, this increases to 30 days per year. Annual leave is pro-rated for part-time staff.

Flex time

We operate a flex time system for some of our employees depending on job role. This scheme allows employees to have an improved work-life balance and be flexible with the times they start and finish work, as long as they meet the job requirements. The core hours that staff must work are:

  • 9.30am to 12pm
  • 2pm to 4pm

Career Average Pension Scheme

You can find out more about our Local Government Pension Scheme at Norfolk Pension Fund. The benefits under the scheme are based on the length of your membership and your average salary.

Training

At the council we have a supportive culture of allowing our people to learn and grow, with a varied corporate training programme for all employees. The programme covers technical and professional development training, such as management development programmes.

Where possible we want to help you achieve your career development objectives. We can provide:

  • on the job training
  • formal training
  • career coaching
  • mentoring
  • eLearning

Car user allowance

Your role may attract an essential car user allowance, which is paid monthly on top of your salary.

Relocation expenses

We have a relocation package for those relocating after accepting a role within the council. The policy covers various relocation scenarios and offers up to £5000 towards removal expenses and solicitors fees. Please read the policy for full details on what is covered.

Discounts

Our staff have access to an employee discounts platform, which offers a great range of discounts on various retailers and services. It also houses our Cycle to Work Scheme, Eyecare vouchers and Employee Assistance Programme. Staff also enjoy discounts at the following local leisure centres:

Wellbeing

All staff have access to our independent and confidential Employee Assistance Programme, which is available 24/7. The service offers free access to a range of specialist support and information, such as a private GP referral service and includes access for family members.

Our dedicated Health and Wellbeing group also organise various wellbeing-focussed activities throughout the year, such as our flagship event and a Health and Wellbeing week each autumn that hosts multiple events each day.

Equality, Diversity and Inclusion

We have an active Equality, Diversity and Inclusion group that meets regularly during the year, produces quarterly newsletters and has dedicated internal pages and resources. It leads various initiatives such as supporting wider national events including Pride, raising awareness, and neurodiversity.
