Article 4 Directions

This dataset contains polygons for Article 4 direction areas within North Norfolk. An Article 4 direction is a direction under Article 4 of the General Permitted Development Order, which enables the Secretary of State or the local planning authority to withdraw specified permitted development rights across a defined area.

Brownfield land register

Land that has previously been developed is described as brownfield land. The Government is keen that local councils maximise the use of previously developed land for new housing and are aware of all such sites within their boundaries.

Local planning authorities must publish a brownfield land register under the Town and Country Planning Regulations 2017. The register was first published on 18 December 2017 and must be updated yearly.

Conservation areas

This dataset contains polygons of conservation areas within North Norfolk. This data is an active, evolving record of conservation. 

Conservation areas were introduced through the Civic Amenities Act 1967. They are identified as having special architectural or historic interest which merits designation.

This dataset contains polygons for listed buildings within North Norfolk. These are buildings, objects, or structures considered to be of special architectural or historic interest and need to be preserved for future generations.

The Secretary of State compiles the list for Culture, Media and Sport following advice from Historic England. Statutory listed buildings are protected by legislation in the Planning (Listed Buildings and Conservation Areas) Act 1990.

Tree preservation orders

The tree preservation orders (TPOs) dataset is issued by local planning authorities to protect specific trees, groups of trees, or woodlands.

The tree preservation zones dataset are areas of trees under a tree preservation order. You may also know them as tree preservation zones or groups.

This dataset contains tree preservation orders for individual trees.

It is an offence to contravene an order by damaging or carrying out work on a protected tree without getting the necessary written consent from North Norfolk District Council (the local planning authority).
