North Norfolk annual canvass 2024
Electoral Services are required to carry out an annual canvass of all households in North Norfolk to check that information held on the electoral register is correct.
Annual canvass 2024
You will shortly receive a letter from the Council showing the currently registered householders on the electoral register as of 9 August 2024. If nobody was registered at the property on that date, the form will not contain any names.
The letter you receive will indicate one of the following:
- if you are required to respond only in the event of a change from what is shown on your letter
- if you are required to respond, even if the details on your letter are correct
Canvass forms will be delivered by Royal Mail from 4 September 2024.
If a response is required from your household, please make sure you do this before 3 October 2024. If you do not respond by this date, a reminder form will be issued on 14 October 2024.
How to respond
The letter will contain instructions telling you whether you need to respond.
If you are required to respond or need to update any of the information given on the form, you can do this by:
- going online to the household response website. You will need both security codes shown on your letter.
- amending the letter received and sending it to Electoral Services, North Norfolk District Council, Holt Road, Cromer, NR27 9EN. You can also scan or photograph it and send it to electoralservices@north-norfolk.gov.uk
Eligibility

- 18 years old or over
- British, Irish, European or qualifying Commonwealth citizen. See information on European Union citizens and the electoral register.
- 16 and 17 years old, although you will not be able to vote until you are 18
- residing within the North Norfolk District area
If you require a form to register or need help or advice, please contact the Electoral Services team.
FAQs and reminders
View our frequently asked questions for further information. Please remember:
- being registered for Council Tax does not mean you are also placed on the Register of Electors
- if you have moved to a new address, you need to register to make sure all eligible adults are registered at the new address
- responding to a canvass letter or form does not place you on the Register of Electors. It tells us who is eligible to be registered and those who are not already on the register will be sent an email or form which will allow them to complete their registration.
- eligible electors can register online to complete a registration to vote. A response from the household for the annual canvass may still be required if this is stated on the canvass letter received.
- you can confirm that your property is empty or a second home in your response. If it is your second home, you should not provide your names as eligible electors when you respond to the canvass.
- the Register of Electors is often used to confirm an individual's address, especially if they are applying for credit such as a mortgage, personal loan or even a mobile telephone. If you are not registered, you can be refused credit, as well as losing your right to vote.
