The Market Towns Initiative is a £400,000 funding pot designed to support community organisations in North Walsham, Stalham, Fakenham and Holt

Introduction

As part of an exciting Market Towns Initiative, we allocated each of our market towns, Fakenham, Holt, North Walsham and Stalham, a ring fenced budget of up to £100,000 for the financial year 2018/19 to spend on locally owned and managed projects.

To keep up to date with the progress of the project, funding rounds and what awards have been handed out, please see the News articles section on this page.

We have committed to supporting community-led projects with the intention of revitalising and enhancing the four town centres. These projects will be set up to increase footfall within the Market Towns and the time spent in them by those who visit.

By working together with local community groups, we can improve facilities and support changes that will make our Market Towns a better place to live, work and visit.

The kind of activities or initiatives that could be supported, for example, might include:

  • Improved signage.
  • Public WIFI schemes.
  • Events or festivals which are hosted in the town, promoting local products and/or community interests.
  • Loyalty schemes that encourage people to spend in the town centre.
  • Projects that generate and/or increase enterprise activity, to help create or sustain local jobs.
  • Trails or activities that encourage visitors to the town.
  • Environmental schemes that make the town more appealing and attractive.
  • Heritage schemes that enhance the historical appearance of the town.
